Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra with Mary Elizabeth Bowden
Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater
Classical trumpeter Mary Elizabeth Bowden joins the Chautauqua Symphony and Stuart Chafetz for their final concert of the summer. Bowden, praised for her “splendid, brilliant” playing (Gramophone Magazine) and her “pure, refined, and warm” tone (American Record Guide), will perform Bohemian Queen, a new work written by Brazilian American composer Clarice Assad. Co-commissioned by Chautauqua, the concerto is a reflection on the surrealist art of Gertrude Abercrombie, an American painter called “the queen of the bohemian artists.” Program:
Giuseppe Verdi: Force of Destiny Overture
Clarice Assad: Bohemian Queen (premiere)
Alexander Borodin: The Polovtsian Dances
